Quilting (Division 34) 

ENTRY FEE: $2.00 per class. 

Prize Money: Class 1: 1st - $200, 2nd - $150, 3rd - $ 100 

Class 2 & 3: 1st - $150, 2nd - $100, 3rd - $ 75 

Class 4-10: 1st - $100, 2nd - $75, 3rd - $50 

*Grand Champion: May proceed to District 13 competition 

AWARDS 

Special by Stache Fabrics & Notions - BEST IN SHOW! 

The winner of Best in Show in the quilting division will receive an additional award of $200 with a rosette from Stache Fabrics & Notions. 

The exhibitor who wins Grand Champion quilt is eligible to enter their quilt in the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (O.A.A.S.) competition. To enter this competition the Grand Champion Quilt must compete in the District 13 Quilt Competition in November. The first prize quilt from the District Competition is then entered in the O.A.A.S. Competition which is held at their annual convention in February. The entry judged BEST OF SHOW at the February Convention will be declared the O.A.A.S. Championship Quilt. A $500.00 grand prize will be awarded, and the exhibitor will retain ownership of the quilt. The second-place prize money of $100.00 will be awarded to the runner-up. Quilt must be solely made and machine quilted by the exhibitor. 

Quilt to be measured on the perimeter. Total perimeter measurement to be a minimum of 324 inches.

Rules for Entry: 

  • Entries must be finished, clean and in good condition. 

  • *When entering in the Mid and Long Arm technique classes (Class 2 & 4), if you had the Mid or Long Arm work done by someone else, please credit this person when entering by putting their name in the description on ShoWorks. 

  • Maximum size not to exceed 500 inches, outside area. 

  • Attach a 4” hanging sleeve to the back of all quilts/wall hangings. All entries must be ready to hang. Please paste a piece of fabric over any permanent name label on your quilt 

  • Submit each entry in a clear plastic bag marked with your name, address, phone number and the competition category. Enclose a copy of your entry receipt with your quilt(s) 

  • Quilt must include the finish date (stitched after 2023). 

  • Exhibitors may enter all classes but may only submit one entry per class. 

  • Grand Champion quilt must be machine quilted and measure a minimum of 324 inches around the perimeter. • The Western Fair may combine any Class or Classes where there are not sufficient entries to provide competition. o A competition requires 3 entries per class. If there are not sufficient entries only a ribbon may be awarded (no prize money)

  • Bed Quilt: Minimum 324 inches, outside area (Hand quilted) 

  • Bed Quilt: Minimum 324 inches, outside area (Mid and Long Arm technique*) 

  • Bed Quilt: Minimum 324 inches, outside area (Domestic machine) 

  • Quilted wall hanging: Minimum 80 inches, outside area, any shape (Mid and Long Arm technique*) 

  • Quilted wall hanging: Minimum 80 inches, outside area, any shape (Domestic machine) 

  • Lap Quilt: Approximately 75x50 inches 

  • Art Quilt: Minimum 50x60’’, any shape. Quilt not to exceed maximum size. (Hand Quilted) 

  • Art Quilt: Minimum 50x60’’, any shape. Quilt not to exceed maximum size. (Domestic Machine) 

  • Appliqué: Minimum 50x60’’, any shape. Quilt not to exceed maximum size. (Hand Quilted) 

  • Appliqué Minimum 50x60’’, any shape. (Domestic Machine) 

Quilting – Youth (Division 35) 

ENTRY FEE: $2.00 per class. 

Prize Money: 1st - $75 2nd - $50, 3rd - $25 

Class: 

  1. 6-10 years: Quilted item. Minimum 50x60’’, any shape. 

  2. 11-15 years: Quilted item. Minimum 50x60’’, any shape.
