Western Fair Safety Security

★ Before You Arrive

Safety & Security!

For everyone’s safety, all bags are searched, and all guests pass through a metal detector at the gate. A little preparation before you arrive can help keep the entry process moving smoothly.

What happens at the gate

1. Bag search

All bags are opened and checked. Have every pocket unzipped before you reach the table.

2. Metal detector

Everyone walks through. Empty your pockets into the bin first.

3. You're in

Most people are through in under a minute. Travelling light makes it faster still.

★ Guests who decline to be searched will not be permitted entry to the Fair.

★ A little preparation saves everyone time

Top 5 tips to get through security faster!

1. Travel light

Leave unnecessary bags, backpacks and bulky items at home.

2. Empty your pockets

Place your phone, keys, wallet, coins and other items in the bin.

3. Have bags ready

Unzip all pockets on bags, purses, diaper bags and anything else before you reach the table.

4. Know what's prohibited

Leave weapons or other edged items, illegal substances, alcohol, skateboards, roller skates and scooters at home.

5. Listen to security staff

Follow directions so the line keeps moving and helps everyone get in faster.

Prohibited items

Please leave these at home. Bringing them will slow you down at the gate.

  • Illegal drugs
  • Weapons of any kind, including pocketknives, box cutters, scissors or other edged items
  • Wide spray aerosols of any kind, or other weaponized or unidentifiable chemicals
  • Drones, UAVs or other remote controlled devices
  • In-line skates, bicycles, skateboards, motorized self-balancing hoverboards and scooters
  • Pets, with service animals excepted
  • Any other object that endangers the safety of others, as determined by security staff within their reasonable discretion

If found, prohibited items may be returned to your vehicle or surrendered for disposal. Disruptive or disorderly conduct may lead to expulsion from the grounds.
