Visiting the barn safely
A few important reminders to keep your visit healthy and fun for everyone.
Wash up after visiting
Diseases can pass from animals to humans through direct contact. Always wash hands with soap and water, or use an alcohol-based sanitizer, after touching any animal, enclosure, or feed.
Extra care for
higher-risk visitors
Children under 5, the elderly, pregnant women, and immuno-compromised individuals are at greater risk and should take extra precautions.
No food or drink in the barn
Please finish eating and drinking before entering the animal area. Hand-washing stations are provided at the exit.
Feeling unwell after your visit?
If you or your child experience stomach cramps, vomiting, or diarrhea within a week of visiting, see a doctor and mention your visit to the animal exhibit.

Animal welfare at the Fair
Our Statement
Animal welfare has always been a top priority for Western Fair District. The Association has deep agricultural roots, and animals have been an integral part of that history — helping us promote and educate on the value of agriculture to urban and rural audiences. Animals on our site are always cared for to their breed standard, and we continually consult with animal welfare professionals to benefit from their knowledge and expertise.
Our Care Policy
Responsible management of animals in our venues is informed by consultation with one or more veterinarians, animal husbandry experts hired to supervise care, and the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) Animal Protection Act. This includes guidelines on feed, water, and bedding standards, care protocols with our Official Event Veterinarians, and guidance for sick or injured animals.
